APC split into factions as Party leadership fight dirty in Ekiti

The present moment happen to be one of the dark days for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State as the party leaders are clearly working at cross purposes, causing a number of division in the party.

News4Naija gathered that the division, which had originated since the preparations for the 2018 Governorship election, is said to be getting more wider, owing to the fact that crisis between some loyalist of the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and some others members who are loyal to an aggrieved leader, whose name was not mentioned, keeps on getting dirty on daily basis.

According to a source, Fayemi’s Victory sitting the primary Election has left sores in the throat of some prominent members of the Ekiti State APC, which include a former APC Deputy National Chairman, Chief Segun Oni; former governorship aspirant, Dr Oluwole Oluyede;Presidential adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu; former House of Representatives members, Bimbo Daramola; and Oyetunde Ojo.

Although it was expected that all other aspirants who contested the primary Election for the candidacy ticket would rally round and support the winner, Fayemi, to victory as he made a personal visits to each and every one of them to extend a hand of fellowship.

Some co-contestants, including Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, Muyiwa Olumilua, and Bamidele Faparusi, teamed up with the governor and became commissioners for health, information and infrastructure, respectively, but others refused to team up.

A lucid example was that of Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who stepped down fees days before the primaries with a complain that the primaries have been designed to favor a particular candidate, gave a verdict that he would support the party and not Fayemi to victory.

Oni, who was the second runner-up in the primary headed court to challenge Fayemi’s as the party candidate, he alleged that Fayemi failed to properly resign his appointment as Minister of Mines and Steel Development, he urged the court to pronounce him (Oni) the validly elected APC governorship candidate.

However, Oni lost the case he had filed against Fayemi and the APC at the high, appeal and supreme courts, and this had served as the Genesis of the many crises, which had made aggrieved members rocked the Ekiti State ruling party till date.

The Ekiti APC leadership, did not spare Oni after the court case, the executive of his Ifaki Ward II in Ifaki Ekiti, handed him a suspension letter from the party in May 2019, a decision that was believed by the aggrieved memebers to have been championed by Fayemi through the APC State Working Committee.
