Buhari reappoints Danbatta as NCC Boss, notifies Senate

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday reappoint Professor Umaru Danbatta as the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

President Buhari wrote a letter to the senate asking for the approval of the appointment, which would be the second term of Danbatta as the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC.

The President in his letter requested that the Senate endorse the reappointment of Professor Umar Danabatta for a five years second term tenure as the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, and said it hopes that the Senate would in the usual expeditious manner endorse the appointment.

The letter was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, and the endorsement is in accordance with provisions of section 8 subsection One of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Act.

Professor Danbatta was earlier recommended for a second term as one of the Chief Executive Officers at the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), to President Muhammadu Buhari about a month ago by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami.

Danbatta is a native of Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State; he obtained his first and second degree from Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland, and moved on to obtain his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).

The Nigeria Communication Commission boss has earlier served as the Vice President of the Digital Bridge Institute,  an International Centre for Advanced Communications Studies, established by the Nigerian Communications Commission in 2004, to build capacity in the diverse areas of Information and Communication Technology for the Nigerian/African telecom industry.

He had also served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil Kano State.
