The Osun state government under the leadership of Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as one of its measures to cut down the spread of COVID-19, has decreed a total lockdown of four local government areas.
The affected local governments include Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesha East, and Ilesha West, the governor in his statement explained that there would be seven days restriction of movements in the affected local governments effective from July 7.
Explaining the reason behind locking down the councils, Mrs, Funke Egbemode, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said the State Government decided after a rising number of positive COVID-19 cases was recorded in the four local government.
She went further to emphasize that the initial lockdown was to last for seven days but the Government will not hesitate to extend it if the level of compliance isn’t satisfactory.
Egbemode added that residents of the affected local government areas will not be able to go to worship centers and markets as the lockdown will be a total one.
The Commissioner however pointed out that the state government has been monitoring other local governments in the state and may soon lock down more areas with increasing positive cases of the virus.
She further explained that the state was closely monitoring other Local Government Areas with rising numbers of those testing positive for COVID-19 in the state, and may in the days ahead, lockdown more areas.
She added that the decision to impose a total lockdown on the four local government areas was aimed at containing the spread of the virus.
The Commissioner stressed that the lockdown would be total, as residents and citizens in the affected local government areas would not have the opportunity to go to worship centers and markets during the lockdown period.
