JUST NOW: Lawan rebuff plans to run for president in 2023

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has on Saturday rebuff some rumors flying around that he is getting ready to contest for President in 2023.

This was disclosed in a statement through his Special Advicer on Media, Ola Awoniyi, who said some claims by some media outlets that his boss is making plan to run for president is false.

Awoniyi, emphasized that it is premature for anyone to start making plans for 2023 politics, he went on to explain that the Senate President is presently busy with extant issues of Governance.

It was stated in the statement that a puerile media report had drawn the attention of the Office of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as the report which was first published by Daily Independent Newspaper on Friday July 17th 2020 and later republished by Sahara reporters, calims that the Senate President is planning to run for President in 2023.

According to the statement the media report must have been sourced from beer parlour gossips and should be treated with the same contempt that those who cooked it up deserve. It was further stated that the Senate President had truly went to consult President Muhammadu Buhari, regarding the recent emergency meeting of the All Progressive Congress (APC), National Executive Council Committee.

However, there was nothing special about him making such consultations, owing to the fact that as a member of the APC, he holds one of the highest political office in the Nation and such is required of any concerned party member, reiterated the Statement.

Furthermore it was declared through the statement that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, believes that all hands were supposed to be deck to tackle challenges facing the Nation at the moment and not a proper time for anyone to start talking about 2023.
