Man sentenced to life Imprisonment for raping 2-year-old girl

A man identified as Adekunle Olalere has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ogun State High Court seated in Isabo, Abeokuta, on Tuesday for allegedly raping a two-year-old girl.

NewsNaija gathered that the accused, who resided at No. 18 Bashorun Street, off Unity Road, Olowotedo, Mowe, was convicted on a one-count charge of forcefully having sexual intercourse with the minor, but he pleaded not guilty.

However, Justice Abiodun Akinyemi, while presenting her judgment ruled that evidence presented by the prosecuting counsel against the convict before the court is tenable and affirmed that the convict had sexual intercourse with the minor.

Hence the Judge pronounced the convict guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The convict was reported to have committed the crime at his residence three years ago, precisely on the 22nd of March 2017. As reported by the Assistant Chief State Counsel, Mrs. Oluyemisi Aruleba, during the trial, Olalere forcefully had sexual intercourse with a two-year-old daughter of a woman who works for his wife.

According to the Prosecutor, the victim’s mother took her daughter to the hospital after finding her in tears with her private part swollen, it was discovered at the hospital that the child have been sexually abused as sperm cells belonging to the convict were discovered in the child’s private part.

The offense as stated by the prosecution counsel is contrary to section 32 of the 2006 Ogun State Child right Law.
