A student of Geology department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, miraculously survived after a buiding in Modakeke collapsed in the early hours of today.
The student, who identifies as Godwin, was sleeping in his rented apartment – which is at the ground floor of a one storey building when a part of the buiding where his room was located collapsed. Explanations gotten revealed that the most of the particles fell in the exact position where he was sleeping, which makes the survival quite miraculous.
Godwin went for a Drama rehearsal overnight and had just gotten back early in the morning – Godwin decided to take a nap before starting the day’s activities. The buiding collapsed when he was sleeping and people had to save him from the broken particles he was covered with. Godwin said “I was under the broken blocks and woods for about 7 minutes, it is miraculous.”
Godwin was later taken to health centre after but he didn’t appear badly injured. There was another guy who also rented a room in the part of the building that collapsed but he was awake and he was at the top floor – he only fell along with the buiding.
Newspoint gathered that there were lots of telling signs that the buiding would soon collapse. Godwin also told us that he saw signs but he couldn’t talk to the landlord.
Meanwhile, the landlord, whose name is unknown but confirmed to be an OAU employee, was criticized by some students at the site of the collapsed building. They said, “he appears to be more concern about the collapsed building than the residents.”
