Osun Yahoo boy bags six-month Jail term

A Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced a yahoo boy identified as Timileyin Awojodu to serve a six-month jail term with hard labor.

Awojodu was convicted for fraudulently acquiring the sum of 2,500USD from an American.

The prosecutor from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, AbduRasheed Sulaeman, during the trial on Tuesday explained to the court that Awojodu had posed as a lady under the name, Troy Stone, to defraud an American whose name was withheld.

Exhibits tendered before the court by the prosecuting counsel include money recovered from the convict, an iPhone 7 with nude pictures sent to his victim through mails, and his confessional statement.

The convict, however, pleaded guilty and opted for a plea bargain, his counsel, Mr. Dotun Akinsanmi, prayed the court for leniency, he added that his client has stayed in the EFCC custody for seventy-three days.

Justice Peter Lifu, while delivering his judgment said he found the convict guilty of the offense and sentenced him to serve a six months jail term with hard labor.

Nevertheless, Justice Lifu ruled that the jail term should be counted from October 2019, which was the date that the convict was first arrested, he added that the recovered money should be returned to the victim in the United States.
