WAEC withdraws certificates of candidates from 1992 to 2014 over impersonation



WAEC has released names of candidates who were guilty of examination malpractices between 1992 and 2014. The council withdrew the certificates of the affected persons who were 10 in number. Moreover, JAMB said that it is presently working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) so as to track candidates in examinations Following investigations that revealed crimes of impersonation, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withdrawn its certificate from some candidates from 1992 to 2014.

The names of the persons so accused were published by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday, December 2, PM News reports. Their names and examination numbers are given below:

4. Oham J. December 1994 (NGSP 0177271)

5. Mbara G. December 2001 (WNR 2248072)

7. Ugwu P. December 2005 (NGWASSCP 4534182)

8. Anene J. December 2008 (NGWASSCP 5505913)

9. Ogbenna C. December 2011 (NGWASSCP 06927486)

10. Nwangwu I. December 2014 (NGWASSCP 8392056)

JAMB said that in order to curb malpractice, it is working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for better tracking of candidates’ identity numbers during and after its examination. The board said: “In order to have a seamless registration for the 2020 UTME, we have put machinery in place to test run the new registration regime under the joint platform of JAMB and NIMC using the NIN.

In line with this, JAMB’s registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, directed all staff members of the board to take part in trial registration that ended on Tuesday, December 3.

Meanwhile, Newspoint reported that a total of 33,304 candidates passed with credit in the mandatory five subjects, including Mathematics and English, in the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE ) in Nigeria. This was made known by WAEC which released results of the exercise on Friday, November 15.
